eJay Trance Competition 2002

My Entry:

I would enter one of my current ones but I'm not sure if it is trance

Information :

Track Name: Free @ Last
Track Length: 4:05
Made With: Dance eJay 1 & 2, and with my microphone

The only reason I want to enter this is cause a lot of my m8s online reckon it totally rocks.

Strife

Good Luck To All!

Everyone has entered and kick off commences:

Dan Conway - The Truth Of The Sun
DJ Dark Santa - Just A Piece Of Raw Meat

Mash - Red Sky At Night

Now cos I've still got a little work to do on transferring my data between by pc's David & Goliath, I'll try and announce a winner by Thurs 26th. This will also give Saltyball once last chance to get his track sorted.

Good luck guys and may the best trance track win!

AL.

Round 1:

Okay, so I'm judging this comp over 4 levels and I'm looking for these 4 things:-

1 - Originality
2 - Composition
3 - Flow
4 - Danceability

I've just completed round one and these are the tracks that have made it to round two:-

Gnazz - Back For More (Shortcut Mix)
Hibotan - Voyager (Ocean In Motion Mix)
Lithiam Priest - Event Horizon (LP's TimeBender Mix)
Mash - Red Sky At Night
Old Skinflint - Release Me
Sants - Elektronique
Square Bear - Firestorm
Strife - Free@Last
The Faculty - Linda's Tune
Xtatica - The Sign

Well done to those that have made it to Round 2, commiserations to those that are out already, better luck next time!

AL.

Round 2:

lol Xtatica. Talk about puttin' on the pressure.
Sorry Virus. Tis the worst thing about judging I'm sad to say. I just don't like picking losers but losers I gotta pick and this compo is a tough call. Soz m8

Okay so here are round two results and the list is gettin' shorter (I feel like I'm Popstars lol) :-

Gnazz - Back For More (Shortcut Mix)
Mash - Red Sky At Night
Sants - Elektronique
Square Bear - Firestorm
Strife - Free@Last
Xtatica - The Sign

AL.

Round 3:

Well I wish I could pick a favoutite out because they are all so ... good lol. Dis is gettin' very hard indeedie!
After round 3 here are the ones who make to the final round from which I hope to be able to pick 1st 2nd & 3rd place (tomorrow).

Strife - Free@Last

(Well done guys for keeping your smiley faces even though you didn't win. Better luck next time eh?)

AL.

The Result:

To be honest, I guess I am slightly biased in favour of eJay composed tracks, since that's all I've ever had time to use myself. Although I do have a demo copy of Fruity, I've never made a track using it; however, I have tried not to allow by biased attitude sway my judgement when I listened to these compositions.
As usual when I judge these music compos, I download as soon as I receive the link, but I do not listen to any of them until judgement day. On this occasion I have judged them on the criteria given by my predecessor, D. Edge. Just to remind you they were as follows:-

1 - Composition
2 - Flow
3 - Dance ability

It's been a difficult competition to judge mainly because as usual, the standard has been very high. In fact nearly all the tunes submitted are worthy to be included on my forthcoming trance album, but alas, I can only award 2 finalists that chance, so without further ado, here are the final 3 top tunes from this amazing trance competition.

3rd Place - Square Bear - Firestorm
2nd Place - Gnazz - Back For More (Shortcut Mix)
1st Place - Strife - Free@Last

So congratulations to Strife (a relative newcomer I think). Both me and my girlfriend enjoyed this track more because the dude had used not only eJay but his trusty little mike as well.

He will receive not only the HH4 demo, but also as yet an unreleased 90 min trance mix I made a few years ago and 1st & 2nd place winners get the chance to be featured on the trance album later (subject to the usual paperwork being completed).

Well done once more to those finalists and congratulations to all the entries even if they did not win on this occasion. As I said, it was one mean mother to judge!

Comments:

Square Bear

Well done Strife and a big thank you to Al for putting the time in to judge this comp.
I listened to most of the tracks and I certainly wouldn't want to pick out a winner.
Well done to all who entered. Here's to the next one.

Gnazz

Everyone else it was a blast to compete against the best..Thanx guys.

De@n

Dan

Glossy

Congrats Strife!
But also well done to all the others as well. I checked out a lot of the entries and they are fantastic trance anthems. I'm sure it was a difficult comp to judge AL.

Lee Cullen

Hmmm, I thought mash would take the crown again.....but I was once again wrong....ohh well....well done strife, top tune.

LC

Hibotan

Nice work, AL!
All the top-4 tracks were excellent, guys.
I could never managed to pick a winner.

I support MASH' suggestion. You will have one hell of a trance-cd with these tunes.

Later,

Hibotan

Old Skinflint

The Winner
Congratulations to Strife on his victory, with a very good tune.

The "Each Way Winners"

Congratulations also to those who made the later stages of the competition with some very fine pieces of music. As I've already said, some of the tracks entered in this competition are deserving of a much bigger audience and would be at home on a commercially released CD. I've heard a lot, lot worse on release and I'm sure I speak for most of us when I say that.

Kameleon

Congrats go to Strife, good work.
