Ok, where do I begin....
My real name is Kevin Cooke and I live in the United Kingdom (even
though I'd rather say England). I like to produce Electronica
based music in my spare time, especially Trance.
When I was younger I wasn't really into music, I would always
be out or in playing on my Spectrums (48k & 128k +3). I remember
the spectrums very well cause I think I got out the 128k +3 a
when I was at college, it was funny seeing all the Dizzy games
and stuff again. I had got the 128k +3 in the early 90s, at the
time NES, Master Systems and Megadrives were the rage (yes I like
Computer/Video Games). I used to program on my Spectrum, copying
code out of the instruction manual and editing it. I vaguely remember
making music and having backgrounds animating and I saved them
to floppy, it was fun even though the sounds the speccy came out
with were bloody awful...
After
leaving College in 1998, I remember buying the Christmas edition
of the Official Playstation Magazine (the magazine I used to waste
my money on). The Magazine had a demo disc and this month included
a playable demo of 'Music' by Codemasters. I must of fiddled with
it for about a hour or two, and somehow I managed to make a tune,
even though the length was fixed and there weren't many samples
(don't you just love demos). I vaguely remembered the layout and
when I took the demo round me sisters I redid it, and her boyfriend
at the time said something positive about it (I think he did anyways...).
After that I didn't touch music creation until deciding to ask
for 'Music 2000' by Codemasters for Xmas 1999. Then after enjoying
it so much I thought I would buy 'Music' by Codemasters, the main
reason was to bring back the track I had made on the demo.
A few weeks after buying a PC (midway through 2000), I saw Rave
and Dance eJay in the shop. At first I bought Rave but then took
it back because for some reason the extra sample kits weren't
in it. Instead of getting my money back I swapped it for Dance
and then ordered Rave off the Fasttrak site. I continued to buy
other eJay progz and I even managed to pick up the PC version
of 'Music 2000'. I still saw my music making as just a bit of
fun though and I just did it now and again.
Then on the 16th of March 2002, I decided to join the eJay site
and upload 'Battle For Far-Stretch Point'. I got a really good
comment off another artist and decided to link one of my friends
to the track to see if he thought it was any good. I think he
had a friend round cause I remember him saying that his friend
liked it. I then decided to make an album, I got together some
of my best stuff and uploaded it all to Javamusic. Within a week
I was gutted, because Javamusic decided to change its rules and
I had to leave (They introduced a pay to be a member scheme).
After leaving Javamusic I decided to make some alterations to
the album. I added a new track in and edited some of the others.
I then setup my SoundClick page and uploaded 'Time & Space'
on the 9th of September (The previous week I had decided to stop
uploading music to the eJay site). Around the same time, I entered
one of my tracks, 'Free @ Last' into a Trance Competition @ the
eJay Forums and I asked Steve Gilmore to review it. After reading
Steve's review I was totally gob smacked, and if that wasn't enough
to shock me, winning the Trance Competition nearly sent me to
an early grave...
Over
the next 12 months (Oct 2002 onwards) I continued to produce music,
new albums, collaborations with other artists and I even managed
to win a Radio Jingle Competition as well. Also during that period
I discovered Fruity Loops and have ever so slowly been moving
away from eJay software. I made some samples in Fruity Loops for
some tracks while I was bleeding eJay dry. Fruity is kinda similar
to Music 2000 in a way cause it opens barriers which make eJay
software very limited. However, unlike Music 2000 it has the ability
to use plugins which is very handy indeedy...
I recently took a rest from producing music and decided to move
to MP3.com.au. The reason I moved was mainly because MP3.com had
closed down and I had been trying to sell my albums on there (I
sold a copy of each album to a m8 in Australia but never got any
money out of MP3.com).
I currently have a best of album in the works, which is being
uploaded very soon. Also a new collaboration which has took 6
months so far, mainly cause it was made in Fruity Loops. After
these are both complete I plan to take another rest and then come
back and start making Fruity Loop tracks. If you read all of the
above, I hope u understood it lol. Thanks for reading...
